It doesn't matter if you call it an entryway, foyer, or mudroom. The space that welcomes you when entering your home is more than just the first stop, it’s the command center for everything that comes and goes. Whether grand and spacious or cozy and compact, this small area can make your life smoother and your home more welcoming.

You can transform this often-overlooked space into an organized heaven by creating systems and adding a sprinkle of personal charm. And we are here to help you with that! Let's tackle that chaos!
Sort Shoes:
Pull all your shoes out.
Categorize them by season (fall/winter and spring/summer) and keep the ones you wear regularly during that season within reach. Store the others up and away, if possible, with a label so you remember what's in there.
Keep your shoes on a rack inside a closet or hide them away in a basket.
Take small or uncomfortable shoes to donation, if in good condition.
Manage Coats and Outerwear:
Go through coats, jackets, hats, mitts, and scarves.
Keep only the items you currently use and store out-of-season items in a closed bin up and away, if possible.
Install hooks or a coat rack to hang outerwear neatly. Consider using the back of the door, if possible.
Organize Bags and Accessories:
Sort through bags, backpacks, and accessories.
Keep only the ones you use regularly in the entryway.
Use hooks or cubbies to store bags neatly.
Keep reusable bags to a minimum and keep them in the car. Remember to take them with you when you go shopping, for anything, not just groceries.

Handle Mail and Papers:
Designate a specific spot for incoming and outgoing mail, such as a small basket or wall-mounted organizer.
Immediately recycle or shred junk mail.
Set up a system for dealing with important mail, such as a file folder or inbox tray. Perhaps this goes elsewhere in your home, like the office.
Create a Drop Zone for Keys and Essentials:
Set up a small tray or wall-mounted organizer for keys, wallets, and other
daily essentials.
Consider installing a key rack to keep keys organized and easily accessible.
Declutter Decorative Items:
Keep decorations minimal to avoid clutter.
Choose a few functional and decorative pieces, like a mirror, a small plant, or a piece of art.
Use Versatile Furniture:
The best option for small spaces that require a lot of storage is making good use of versatile pieces of furniture. Be creative and keep things simple. Chests of drawers and ottomans, for instance, can provide additional storage for hats, gloves, and other small items while giving you a surface to sit on or keep your keys and papers organized.
Install shelves or cubbies to maximize vertical space.

Ensure that storage is accessible and practical for daily use. For example, if you have kids, keep their storage bins and hooks within reach, so they can be independent and help keep the space organized.
Remember to implement a weekly reset! Spend a few minutes each week tidying up the entryway. Put away items, throw away the trash and reset the space to its organized state.
Follow these simple tips and steps and you will transform your entryway into a welcoming and organized space that sets the tone for the rest of your home. Let us know how it goes!
