The 30-Day Okanagan Spring Purge Challenge (LAUNCH)

Spring in the Okanagan isn't just about the blossoms on the trees, it’s about clearing the winter cobwebs from our homes to make room for a busy summer of hiking, boating, and wine touring. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, follow this day-by-day guide to a lighter, more functional home. Start any day of the week, and continue for 4 weeks! Don't wait for the first of the month!

Week 1: The Quick Wins (Entryway & Kitchen)

Focus on high-traffic areas to build immediate momentum.

  • Day 1: The Donation Station. Set up one large bin in your garage or mudroom. This is where every "purge" item goes immediately.

  • Day 2: The Winter Pivot. Move heavy coats and boots to storage. If you didn’t wear it this winter in Kelowna, it’s time to donate it.

  • Day 3: The "Junk" Drawer. Empty it, toss dried-out pens and old batteries, and categorize what’s left.

  • Day 4: Pantry Expiration Sweep. Check dates on canned goods and spices. Toss the old; donate the unexpired items you know you won’t eat.

  • Day 5: Under the Kitchen Sink. Get rid of nearly empty bottles and old sponges.

  • Day 6: Water Bottle Audit. We all have too many. Keep your favourite three and recycle the rest.

  • Day 7: Fridge Reset. Deep clean the drawers and toss mystery jars.

Week 2: Personal Sanctuary (Bedrooms & Bathrooms)

Clearing the spaces where you start and end your day.

  • Day 8: The Nightstand. Only items for sleep and relaxation should stay.

  • Day 9: The Sock Drawer. Say goodbye to the "lonely hearts" (mismatched socks) and those with holes.

  • Day 10: Medicine Cabinet. Properly dispose of expired meds (check with your local pharmacy for safe drop-off).

  • Day 11: Toiletries & Samples. Toss old makeup and those hotel bottles you've been hoarding for years.

  • Day 12: The Linen Closet. Donate old towels to local animal shelters (they always need them!). Keep two linen sets for each bed and donate the rest.

  • Day 13: Under-Bed Storage. If you forgot it was under there, you probably don't need it.

  • Day 14: Pajama Purge. Keep only the comfortable sets you actually wear.

Week 3: Living & Digital Spaces

Focusing on the "invisible" clutter that causes mental fatigue.

  • Day 15: Magazine & Paper Pile. Recycle old flyers and catalogs. File away important 2025 tax documents.

  • Day 16: The Remote Control Catch-all. Pair up your current devices with their cords and remotes. Toss the rest. Have old electronics you don't know what to do with (maybe you're worried there's private or important information on there)? Send us an email and we'll help advise you on what to do. • Day 17: Bookshelf Edit. Keep or lend the books that changed your life; donate the "I'll read it someday" pile. Use the library if you change your mind.

  • Day 18: Digital Desktop. Clear your computer's home screen and empty the trash bin.

  • Day 19: Email Inbox. Unsubscribe from 10 brands that are cluttering your morning.

  • Day 20: Throw Pillows & Blankets. If they’ve lost their "fluff," it’s time to move on.

  • Day 21: Playroom/Game Cabinet. Toss games and toys with missing pieces.

Week 4: The Deep Dive (Closets & Garage)

Tackling the big zones before the summer heat hits.

  • Day 22: The "Maybe" Pile. Go to your closet. If you haven't worn it in a year, consider why (does it fit, do you have the right shoes for it?) and think about donating it to someone who will.

  • Day 23: Shoe Rack. Pare down to what is comfortable and fits your current lifestyle.

  • Day 24: Hanger Uniformity. Swap mismatched plastic hangers for slim velvet ones. It’s a total game-changer. Your clothes don't slip off and you can fit more into the space!

  • Day 25: Hobby Gear. Did you give up skiing? Is that paddleboard gathering dust? Consider selling on local Kelowna forums.

  • Day 26: Garden Tools. Check for rust and broken handles before the May planting season.

  • Day 27: The Car. Clear out the glovebox and vacuum the crumbs from winter road trips.

  • Day 28: Cleaning Supplies. Toss the vacuum attachments you never use.

  • Day 29: Sentimental Box. Spend 20 minutes curating…keep the best, release the rest.

  • Day 30: The Final Drop-Off. Take your "Donation Station" bin to your favorite Kelowna charity. You did it!

Pro-Tip from your Kelowna Organizer: If a day feels too big, set a timer for just 15 minutes. You’ll be amazed at how much you can purge when the clock is ticking!
